A little understanding
goes a long way.
Why do wider tyres need less pressure?
A wider tyre has a bigger air volume and contact patch, so it can support the same weight at lower pressure. That means more grip and comfort, and often lower rolling resistance on real roads.
Why is the rear higher?
Most of your weight sits over the back wheel, roughly 55–60%. Running the front slightly lower improves grip and comfort.
Is this safe for my rims?
Always stay between the minimum and maximum printed on your tyre and within your rim’s limit. Hookless road rims are limited to 72.5 psi (5 bar).
How accurate is this?
It gives a sensible starting point based on widely used formulas and sizing guides. Brands, conditions and personal preference vary, so treat it as a guide and check with a coach, fitter or specialist shop.
