It measures the gap between two numbers relative to their average. It gives the same answer whichever way round you enter them.
% difference = |A − B| ÷ ((A + B) ÷ 2) × 100
Difference or change?
Use percentage difference when neither value is the starting point, like two shops’ prices. Use percentage change when one value came before the other, like last year and this year.
