A little understanding
goes a long way.
How are predictions made?
We use Pete Riegel’s formula, which scales a known race time to a new distance.
T2 = T1 × (D2 ÷ D1)^1.06
We also estimate your VDOT, Jack Daniels’ measure of running fitness, from the same result.
Why might my marathon be slower?
Predictions assume you have trained for the new distance. For the marathon, most runners need 50+ km a week and regular long runs to match the prediction.
Is this calculator for me?
It suits anyone who runs, from beginners to club runners. Results are estimates based on standard formulas. Heat, hills, wind and how you feel on the day all change real performance.
