A little understanding
goes a long way.
How is it worked out?
We use the Pandolf equation, developed by the US Army to estimate the energy cost of walking with a load. It accounts for body weight, load, speed, gradient and terrain.
How heavy should my ruck be?
Start with about 10% of your body weight and build up slowly over several weeks. Many people settle at 15–25%. Keep the weight high and close to your back.
Is this calculator for me?
It suits most healthy adults. Results are estimates. If you have a heart condition, are pregnant or are new to exercise, check with your GP before increasing your activity.
