How is a Handicap Index calculated?
Under the World Handicap System it is the average of your best 8 score differentials from your most recent 20 rounds. With fewer than 20 rounds, a smaller number of the best differentials is used, sometimes with an adjustment.
What is a score differential?
How well you played relative to the course difficulty.
Differential = (113 ÷ Slope) × (Adjusted gross score − Course Rating − PCC)
Course handicap vs playing handicap?
Course handicap converts your index to strokes on a particular set of tees. Playing handicap applies the competition allowance, such as 95% for individual stroke play.
Course handicap = Index × Slope ÷ 113 + (Course Rating − Par)
Is this official?
No. Your official Handicap Index is calculated by your national golf body (England Golf, Scottish Golf, Wales Golf or Golf Ireland) from submitted scores, and includes caps and exceptional score adjustments that this calculator does not.
